the last Saturday of June 2019, Bryanna Petrie left her in-laws’ house around 5:30 a.m. and headed down a scenic road. She had four miles plus strides on tap. Petrie tries to be aware of her surroundings, formulating escape routes just in case. So when a black car approaching her began to slow down, then stopped, she was already on high alert. There was nothing behind Petrie—no houses, no cars, no side roads. About 400 meters ahead, she saw a driveway and an older man watering his trees. She thought, I need to get to that driveway . She sprinted, and as she passed the car, the driver opened the passenger door. He yelled at Petrie, trying to get her into the vehicle, but she kept running. The driver then flipped a U-turn, driving down the wrong side of the road and coming fast. As the car caught up to Petrie, she bolted down the driveway, shaking.
