Celebrate 16 de Septiembre in San Antonio This Weekend

Dieciséis de Septiembre festivities begin Friday and continue all weekend. Though Mexico’s independence day actually falls on Monday this year, San Antonio is still celebrating 16 de Septiembre this weekend with vigor. Check out parades, food, and live music – all commemorating priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s cry for independence from Spain – as well as other events that are just for fun. Aliento a Tequila Opening The University of Texas at San Antonio’s Institute of Texan Cultures is celebrating its newest exhibition, the photographs of Joel Salcido. His Aliento a Tequila explores the landscape, culture, and traditions that led to tequila Mexico’s mestizo national drink. The opening reception, which runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, includes tastings from Tequila Viva Mexico as well as mezcals, margaritas, swag bags, and hors d’oeuvres. Salcido and curator Roy Flukinger will speak, and guests can buy signed copies of the exhibition book. Must be 21 years or older to attend. Find tickets here .
